PYC Training Ethos
A core value of Portland Yoga Collective is continued education for both our student body and teaching team. We provide ongoing learning opportunities in a number of different ways, including a comprehensive and immersive 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) each Fall. In this training, students explore a multifaceted approach to self-inquiry while deepening their practice and understanding of yoga and gaining the tools to teach a safe and empowering yoga class.
In addition to our YTT, we also offer a unique 150-hr Yoga Student Training (YST). The YST is for any student interested in learning more about what the practice of yoga has to offer beyond the mat. Many folks sign up for a traditional YTT with the goal to cultivate a greater depth of understanding in their practice rather than to teach. With this insight, we are excited to offer a training for students who want to dive into all of the profound knowledge and study that a YTT provides, but without the need to absorb material that is not relevant to their interests or pursuits, like “the business of yoga”.
Our continued education training programs extend beyond the 150hr-YST & 200hr-YTT, exploring more focused areas of study to accommodate our student’s specific interests. Rather than a traditional 300-hr Yoga Teacher Training which can be costly and time prohibitive, our aim is to offer immersive and in-depth mini-trainings. Additionally, 300-hr Yoga Teacher Trainings create a barrier for continued education, as only certified teachers can participate. Our goal in offering continued education at PYC is to provide trainings for both certified teachers and students, like our Yin Yoga Training that is designed to cater to certified yoga instructors interested in teaching yin and to students who desire to learn more about Yin Yoga theory, philosophy and practices. All of our trainings offer full and/or half scholarships as part of our continued work to make the teachings of yoga more accessible.
We also provide ongoing education for our PYC teaching team, through quarterly educational staff meetings, a continued education stipend, formal mentorship support and ongoing feedback loops building on a yearlong Conscious Communication program we took as a team. By supporting our teaching staff and providing channels through which they can hone their skills, we hope to deliver excellent offerings to our students and invite our community into deepening and enriching our collective understanding and application of yoga.
