My classes shake up, move around and balance out the different energies felt in the body over the course of the yearly cycle. I draw from Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine theory, nature, rest and anti-capitalist theory, critical race theory, qigong and whatever else is on my radar that week. In 2013, I completed my 200 hr training at Laughing Lotus in Manhattan followed by an additional 300 hr training at Goodyoga in Brooklyn.

Combine the feelings you get when you hear your favorite song, when you pet a puppy, and when you wake up from a really good nap, and you are somewhere close to what you'll feel in my classes. I've been teaching yoga since 2006 and am a student of research and experience. I bring elements of the yoga sutras, functional anatomy and social justice to deepen your experience, and aim to create an atmosphere where ambition is replaced by curiosity.

My enthusiasm for teaching lies in promoting mindfulness based movement as a practice tool to develop an acute awareness of the physical body and how it pertains to mental and emotional patterns. In my classes, I invite you to develop a deeper and more profound relationship with yourself through the exploration of Asana, Pranayama, and present-attention awareness. My classes reflect a blend of asana-styles as well as a focus on the gentle erosion of hard thought patterns through attention and intention.

Liz Merci | she/her

I have been practicing and studying yoga since 2016 and completed two 200-hour teacher trainings and several continuing education courses with a guiding focus on asana for the modern body: building strength, functional movement and inclusivity. My approach is "sensation over aesthetic" and my goal is to invite students to be curious and kind when creating shapes with their bodies on the mat. I love the physical challenge yoga asana offers with the opportunity to build self-confidence, deepen self awareness and enhance the connection within. I live in South Portland with my two cats. I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Guyana 2016-2018) and live for the beach in the summer!

My classes are a mix of exploration, acceptance and rigor. Connecting breath and body, my goal is to facilitate each student in finding the root of their own practice, getting what they need from every class. Centered in love, class becomes a practice of kindness and gratitude for the body and soul. Empowering others and guiding students back to the truth of their practice is my full time job. By centering pleasure, rest, and rigorous self-study, I believe yoga can be a potent tool to dismantling harmful internalized social structures that keep us from true union. My classes are intended to create a warm and inclusive atmosphere for all people, while using the strength and power of my lineage as inspiration. I plan on making Yoga my lifelong work.

I’ve been an athlete my entire life; when I hung up my college basketball jersey, I struggled to find a way to move my body that was as enjoyable as it was challenging. I eventually found that group classes were it for me. I believe there is real magic in bodies moving together in one space. I am NASM certified and have been teaching spin since 2017 and matte classes since 2019. For me, class is an invitation to sweat, have some fun and build trust with your body all while moving to the beat of the music.

In 2005, I began the practice, as many people do–hoping to strengthen and tone my muscles. In time, I got hooked not only on the physical benefits, but also on the mental and spiritual benefits. I was in an accident in 2017 and underwent surgery on my cervical spine. I used the practice of Restorative Yoga to help heal and rehabilitate my body and mind and get me through some dark times. I am passionate about sharing the healing benefits of this relaxing and restorative practice.

With a deep appreciation for intuitive movement and how it's supported me throughout different chapters of my life, my classes empower you to make choices that feel good. Expect a balance of sweet and spicy as we move through playful sequences curated to open the body and guide you inward. My classes are infused with Reiki as my intention is to create a nurturing space for self-care. In 2017, I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training. I have Reiki Level 2 and am certified in yin yoga, yoga nidra and meditation. Outside of class you can find me dancing in heels, swimming in the ocean, designing marketing emails, fostering dogs, or finding Portland's best oat latte.

I've been teaching yoga since 2010. I love to explore yoga poses progressively from their basic components to more complex forms. My classes combine detailed alignment points with somatic movement principles. Emphasis on sensitive inquiry, conscientious breath and subtle body awareness will be the ground from which we explore our own embodied nature. Currently, I am enrolled in a Master's program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling where I hope to explore the intersection of yoga, psychology and somatic movement in a therapeutic setting.

I have been teaching yoga since 2000. I am a 500-hr level graduate of the Yoga Room Berkeley's Advanced Studies Program under Donald Moyer and Mary Lou Weprin. A nationally certified Alexander Technique teacher, I’ve served as a faculty member at the American Center for the Alexander Technique's teacher training program and have taught actors, athletes, writers, musicians, lawyers and yoga teachers in my private practice. I combine my practice of yoga, Alexander Technique, embodied anatomy and developmental movement into a lively somatic approach to self-expression and the body.

In my classes I use cues to build sensitivity to our internal experience and to connect our consciousness to our physical body. My inspirations include yogic philosophy, queer liberation, lunar cycles, Buddhism and tarot. These influence the themes of class, and I'll often invite the practice of different intentions on the mat as a way to invite more of that energy into the rest of our day. In my class we'll move through shapes with intention, and invite pauses at the threshold of movement and change as an opportunity to rewire the brain towards soft awareness and tender presence.

I believe Yoga is an invitation to enter into deep and loving relationship with all parts of ourselves. I began practicing in 2009 in the tradition of B.K.S. Iyengar with Melora Gregory and went on to graduate from Sonic Yoga's 200 hr and Illumina Yoga's 300 hr teacher trainings, both under the guidance of Johanna Bell. My classes are rooted in Tantric philosophy and hold the sentiment that the Divine can be accessed anytime, anywhere. Designed around a specific energetic theme, my flow classes weave together asana, dance-like moving metaphors and mudras, breath, mantra, mythology and archetypal energies, and music to explore the infinite wonder of nature and the depth of this human experience.

I am a lifelong athlete – from the rink to the turf, I can't get enough of the mental and physical demands that come with a consistent movement practice. In 2014, I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher certification so I could share my love of movement with others. My classes involve building strength, trying new things and a constant invitation to be here in this moment. In 2021, I opened Portland Yoga Collective.
